Translation Memory

Lloyd International Translations has invested heavily in Translation Memory (TM) technology tools, to automate the re-use of previously translated material.

TM systems are essentially databases, which store segment pairs of source and translated segments. Once a segment, usually a sentence, has been translated it is stored in the memory for future use. The system automatically retrieves previously translated segments and can also look for similar segments using fuzzy matching techniques. TM is thus extremely efficient where there is a high degree of repetition, as often occurs in technical documentation and websites. This is particularly true for document updates or for new documents which have been based on previous documents. Typically, new documents created from previous technical documents contain 30% or more of text that has already been translated. Document updates could contain 90% or more.
