Lloyd International Translations presents at ISTC conference October 2004
On 8th - 10th October 2004, the Institute of Scientific and Technical Communicators (ISTC) – the largest UK-based society for professional communicators – held its annual membership conference, with the aim of facilitating networking and knowledge-sharing amongst those engaged in scientific and technical communications.
The theme of this year’s conference, held at the historic Oxford Belfry, was Expanding
your Horizons. Participants included well-known names such as Nokia, Motorola, IBM, Pace Micro, Waitrose and Rolls-Royce.
During the three-day event, a broad range of presentations by experts in the field covered cutting-edge developments, technologies and tools, as well as informative case studies. Topics included Indexing, Developing an inclusive Intranet, Using XML, Making effective use of PDFs, Data Presentation and – in line with the aspirational spirit of the conference – Goal-setting and Goal-getting.
Dáire Lawlor of Lloyd International Translations (LIT) presented a paper entitled Delivering
Internationalised Global Content Electronically. LIT – one of Europe’s leading technical translation companies with more than 14 years experience in the IT, telecommunications, automation, engineering and automotive industries – is an affiliate member of the ISTC. This was the second time the company had presented at the conference. The 2002 paper, "Creating Documents with Translation in Mind", is available by request on the White
Papers page of the company’s web site, where you can also read articles on EU
expansion, China’s transformation and Glossary creation. A synopsis of this year’s paper, drawing on the company’s extensive experience of managing complex, highly technical translation and localisation projects, will also shortly be available.
