Case study – Translating clearer vision into reality

Lloyd International helps a leading glass manufacturer to launch a major product innovation in 12 countries

The issue
To support the client’s global launch of the world’s first self-cleaning glass, all marketing materials – brochures, flyers and case studies targeted at various industries from building to automotive – had to be localised within a matter of months. The completion date was crucial as the entire product launch depended on having high-quality marketing materials available on time in each country.

The solution
To meet the tight delivery schedule, the programme was centrally controlled and rolled out in stages across the target markets. From the outset, Lloyd International collaborated closely with both the client and the client’s design agency:

Advising on document creation issues to keep the source documents translation-friendly and reduce the time and cost of translation

Extracting source text from QuarkXPress files to facilitate the use of Translation Memory tools

Developing glossaries to ensure that the client's preferred terminology was used

Translating content using in-country technical translators

Importing completed translations back into QuarkXPress and formatting them to reflect the source documents

Creating PDFs and issuing them to the client’s marketing communication managers in each market for approval

Sending completed files to the design agency for printing

The benefits
Working in close partnership with the client and design agency throughout the project, Lloyd International successfully localised all the marketing documents in time for the launch dates. By fully involving the client’s local managers at each stage and allowing them to make comments and changes before approval, Lloyd International ensured the process had local buy-in.

Applying tools such as Translation Memory enabled Lloyd International to reduce costs and maximise consistency. The glossaries developed during the project will benefit future translations.
