Case
study – As if ‘made in Germany’
 |
Lloyd International’s total localization
solution helps global manufacturer of Industrial Controllers
to double sales in Germany |
The issue
When a leading US manufacturer of industrial automation control
products promoted its new programmable controller at Hannover Fair,
it saw an opportunity to expand market share in a highly competitive
market. The company recognised, however, that to capitalise on the
strong interest shown by potential customers, both the hardware
and software would have to be localised for German-speaking operators.
The solution
Lloyd International’s extensive experience in this field enabled
us to provide a total localization solution with minimal technical
support from the client.
The project comprised four key stages:
 |
Resource files: translating the menus,
dialog boxes and strings in the resource files, resizing the
user interface forms, and selecting menu hot keys |
| |
|
 |
Product screen shots: recreating new screenshots
showing German text, and transferring hot spots for links within
the help files |
| |
|
 |
Online Help files: incorporating the German
screenshots into the online Help file, so ensuring that the
subsequent translation of the Help file matched actual menus,
messages and dialog boxes |
| |
|
 |
Translation of user manuals: utilising
Translation Memory tools for maximum consistency and cost benefits |
The benefits
By fully localising its programmable controller, the company was
able to launch the product as if it had been made in Germany, doubling
sales in the first 12 months. It is now considering localization
for the French, Italian and Spanish markets.
Making use of the latest powerful translation software, such as translation
memory, Lloyd International substantially reduced the costs
of translation and ensured maximum consistency.
